CHIRON11 - NASA Space Apps Challenge

Have you ever wanted to see what a Hohmann Orbital Maneuver looks like, or what the Breakthrough Starshot mission would look like if it existed? Enter CHIRON11. 

CHIRON11 is a virtual space mission simulator made for the NASA Space Apps Challenge. This Simulator was made in Unity and was created to be able to simulate what a real space mission would look like in a very understandable manner.  The simulation includes two missions currently, an orbital transfer to Mars and an experimental mission to Proxima Centauri B and was made with both real and theoretical missions in mind.

When first opening the game there will be a menu asking for the mission you want to simulate. This also has a lot of currently unavailable options which will eventually be used to simulate a mission of your own making.

Upon choosing one of the missions you will be put into the simulation.

How to Control:

- When you first spawn into the simulation you will be looking at the satellite/probe that will be launched. 

- Left and Right Arrow Keys to control Perspective (Which Object you are looking at)

- Scroll Wheel to Zoom In and Out

INFO ON THE SIMULATOR:

It is built using Unity into which we have implemented a physics engine capable of running a solar system. Each planet has it's own satellites orbiting it and everything has been done using calculations based on NASA documents and lectures. The Earth has the ISS orbiting it with the specific ISS orbit and the model used for the player's satellite is the Voyager 1 model.

The simulator was made with being able to simulate missions of your own calculations in mind. Along with this we have included experimental craft and missions. The main inspiration of the simulator was the Proxima Centauri solar system. Hence, we have added the Breakthrough Starshot mission to the simulator, with a hope to bring more experimental missions into the light.
